James Carre Magee, of Pennsylvania, served as Surgeon General of the Army under President Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1939 to 1943, rising to the rank of Major General.

Howard McCrum Snyder of Wyoming also rose to the rank of Major General in the Army Medical Corps.
