Very rare lithograph of a child’s death, a little eerie. Child likely ill. Mother’s clasped hands in prayer, angel standing bedside. As-Is.
Sign on wall presumably reading ‘Rest in the Lord.’
Artist puts all clues to let the viewer know that this beautiful child has been ‘Called Away.’
From the 1800’s with waves and bubbles in the glass which is quite charming. Hung with a picture molding hook with tassel.
Tapered rectangle nails in the back. Frame is wood and has gesso painted with a wood grain which is chipped in places.
Unusual artwork and a one-of-a-kind piece. Nothing similar can be found.
Even though it is a bit macabre, it is a beautiful piece of art capturing the end of life for a child and a grieving mother.
